Our “Thermodynamics and renewable energy laboratory” was founded for both “ESEN 305 Energy systems laboratory I” and “ESEN 306 Energy systems laboratory II” lectures and making applications as part of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer etc. This laboratory mainly consists of three sections as given below;
- 14 experiment sets,
- Meeting section (LED TV, meeting table and seats),
- Mini class (smart board and chairs with armrest).

14 experiment sets are divided into 5 main groups.
1. Thermodynamics Laboratory
Our aim is giving information and teaching basic concepts about energy efficiency, introducing of cooling systems, carrying out air conditioning application and exergy (work potential) assessment of these devices to students by utilizing “Heat recovery climate plant, air-water source heat pump and basic cooling” experiment sets.

2. Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
Our aim is teaching laws of fluid flow, flow types, pressure losses and their reasons, hot to manage fluid flow to students by utilizing “Serial-parallel centrifugal pumps, pressure losses, air tunnel and water booster” experiment sets.

4. Renewable Energy Laboratory
Renewable energy is considered one of the essential solution of global warming problem such that European Union targets 20% renewable energy utilization rise till 2020. So we have lectures about renewable energy in third class both fall and spring semesters. After that our students can carry out experimental studies by utilizing “Wind and solar cell, hydroelectric and biofuel” devices. With these opportunities our students get information about working principles of energy plants, application procedure and areas of renewable energy sources.

5. Control Systems Laboratory
Control systems are essential for energy efficiency in terms of adjusting threshold values. Our students can make application by utilizing “Multiple control and smart house” devices so they can get knowledge about proportional and integral control of pressure, water level, etc. Also they can practice energy consumption habit of a single house and its affect to energy efficiency. This experiment device also enables to students to check renewable energy contribution.

Besides the above mentioned utilities, systems which are installed within national and international R&D projects are also available and used as experiment sets during the undergraduate courses. Within this context, performance tests of a 7.44 kWp BIPV systems which has been built by a FP 7 Project can be conducted, while there is also a PV/T assisted wastewater source heat pumps system which is assisted by a PV/T system
